Filed under: Utilities, Windows, Macintosh, FreewareCalq is a free, lightweight, shortcut-key accessible calculator for both Mac OS X 10.4+ and Windows 2000/XP. The idea is to give you quick access to math functions without launching another program just to do simple calculations.
Calq can run in your Mac menubar or Windows tray, but you can just have the program run in the background with no icons. You can select a hotkey to launch the calculator, and when you press that hotkey, the Calq window displays for you to enter your calculations.

Last session on Day 3. I'm exhausted. I shall summon all of the energy buried inside me to finish this day off. On panel we have Steven Marder (Eurekster), Erik Qualman, Simon Heseltine (Serengeti Communications) and Marty Weintraub (aimClear). [inhales deeply]
Up first is Simon Heseltine:
What is Social Search? It's that human involvement.

Have you ever found yourself reading an item in your RSS reader, only to think, "wow, I should really write about this on my blog?" Well if the reason you didn't follow through is because you were too lazy to open up a second application or web site, YeahReader can help. It's a feed reader and blog client all wrapped up in one.

Because I own BlackHatSEO.com and spent literally 1 day building and marketing it, a year ago a reporter writing for The London Times decided to do a feature article about me. Hey I rank #1 and own the exact match URL so I must be the guy, right? Well maybe (just don't ask Matt!)...but bonus good deal for me on getting the feature, other than some of the regretful out-of-context quotes that were attributed to me.

There's been much discussion lately around ways to follow and keep up with friends and the latest news in the tech world. There are plenty of new startups looking to make life easier; many have merit, but here's a few tips to help you know what's going on.
A Good FeedReader
Many consider that understanding and subscribing to feeds is a given, but the reality is that terms like RSS, Atom, and even Feeds are foreign to most people. The starting point is always a good feedreader. My personal choice is Google Reader, but I was a Bloglines fan for many years and they've been implementing a lot of extra features, so ultimately pick between the two. Once you've picked a FeedReader you should naturally subscribe to TechCrunch here. One source is never enough, so subscribe to ReadWriteWeb, GigaOm and VentureBeat as well.

We've all had one of those days when the universe seems to be playing games with us.
Things haven't quite worked out all day, there's nothing good on TV, all your friends are out
with each other and forgot (didn't want?!) to call you. Even 10 years ago this
sort of Friday night would have been lonely. But these days, if you are plugged into

My suggestion is that you spend thirty seconds watching this video.
Safe for work, audio is okay. Thanks to Ken for pointing it out. [And Bryan points out this original. Hope the client didn't pay too much for the new one!]
You were going to spend how much to distract me from what I was doing?

Last February (2007), I had a diabolical plan to become a household name in the SEO community. Here I was, a guy who has been in SEO for almost ten years and remained a relative unknown. Sure, I made a few friends here and there and have been slowly building my reputation, but who would of thought 12 months ago that I would be able to snag an interview with one of the biggest names in the SEO. And that's not me interviewing the big name, mind you... that's the big name interviewing me!

I'm a pretty active Digg user (here's my profile) and I thought it'll be helpful if I talked a little about the Digg tools that I use everyday. Don't worry, I'm not going to overload you with 50+ redundant tools, most of which only look good but are quite useless.
Trust me, you really don't need many tools when it comes to Digg. There are only a few which are truly essential. If you want to use Digg efficiently like a power user, try the ones in this list.

Hiring at startups is hard. You're swamped, running in a ton of different directions and don't necessarily have a big budget set aside for recruiting. But hiring top talent at startups is essential. You can't afford to hire anything but A-players. Sadly, too few startups dedicate the time needed to recruit properly.
