Cloud computing is one of the terms du joir these days in tech. A historic substitute is "server-side." A more modern equivalent, still very much in use, is "Web-based."
And with the Web in mind, I'd like to posit a short and simple question here: When are all those ones and zeros floating around the Net going to click big with mobile. More specifically, when can we expect to see the US in particular shift to mainstream acceptance of the mobile Internet? And will that cloud-in-your-pocket picture seem all that different than what we have already come to experience on our standard set of desktop computer browsers?

It always upsets me to see new users to social media sites try to gain traction quickly through cheap tricks. Those at the top worked hard to get themselves there and maintain that position. The methods they've used are not listed here…

One of the things that has been the most fascinating part of running a magazine-style site is watching how each of the individual channels are growing in such vastly different ways. Momsational gets most of its traffic from contest aggregation sites. Freelance Parent is getting a lot of traffic from StumbleUpon, because they put out a lot of popular articles on writing. And the Kids' Activities blog is going gangbusters thanks to the search engines.

Site maps provide a dual purpose: They provide search engine spiders easy access to all of your site pages and they provide site visitors easy access as well. The difference is that search engines and visitors access your site map differently and therefore there are different methods that need to be applied to creating site map(s)that are friendly

Late last year I began the process of hiring a handful of writers to help create new content for Digital Photography School (I wrote a little about it here). I ended up taking on 6 new writers on a trial basis to write one post each per week. It's been a fascinating process to go through and it's taught me a lot about how I blog as I move more from a blog writer to a blog editor role.

Back in the day, when Google was in its infancy, the search leaders of the time (Yahoo, Altavista, Excite, etc.) cluttered search results with banner ads. In addition to offering a superior algorithm, one of Google's most alluring early features was the absence of such intrusions. However, this is about to change, at least on a limited basis, according to Saul Hansell of The New York Times.
