The Pong Clock Screensaver 2.0
Published by Adam Lyttle on June 24, 2007

Comments

We are currently working on version 3.0 to fix a few issues (including widescreen, dual monitor support and incompatibility problems with the XP Welcome screen). If you have any suggestions for the new version please be sure to post a comment.

We are glad to present The Pong Clock Screenaver 2.0, based on the classic game. It plays a random game of Pong that lasts for 24 hours - the right side wins every minute and the left side wins every hour. The scores at the top reflect the current time in 24 hour format. Version 2.0 brings a bunch of cool new features!

Download Screensaver (552kb)

Our previous version of the Pong Clock Screensaver has received quite a lot of feedback. I have received emails from many people who are currently using the screensaver but thought it would be good to see some more features.
  • Computer vs computer - It's a face-off between the computer and, err the computer. No 2 games will ever be the same, every part of the game is completely randomised.
  • Automatic Installation - The downloadable file will automatically install the screensaver. If you have problems please contact us.
  • Stereo Sound! - The paddles now have audio! The left paddle will make a blip noise in the left speaker and the right paddle will make a blip noise in the right speaker (by default this is turned off, you will need to open the settings to enable this). The scoreup also has audio.
  • OSD Settings - You can now change the On-Screen Display settings. We had a few people raise concern with the horizonal and vertical bars and requested a way to turn them off. Same goes for the score.
  • Plus a few other bits and pieces
This screensaver has been scanned for viruses and is guaranteed not to contain any spyware or malicious software. If you have any concerns about any of the software or downloads available from the Adamant Solutions website please contact us.

Please note: There has been reports that McAfee warns users about the installation process. We believe this may be due to the automatic screensaver installation feature. As a result this function has been removed from the setup and you will be required to activate the screensaver manually. Could a McAfee user please confirm whether or not this fixed the issue?

Mike commented on July 23, 2007

Hi Bud is it Vista compatable, has any1 had problems trying to install with Vist Home premium edition?

Adam Lyttle commented on July 23, 2007

Howdy Mike, the screensaver was developed on Vista. If you are having problems please feel free to contact Adamant Solutions

William commented on August 3, 2007

Hi Adam, just heads up that the links to your downloads are broken, including the screensavers. Thanks, and cheers!

Adam Lyttle commented on August 4, 2007

Thanks for pointing that out William.

James commented on August 5, 2007

The executable appears corrupted, as it says "pongclock_setup.exe is not a valid Win32 application".

Robert commented on September 25, 2007

Awesome! Works like a charm! Everyone that walks by gets a big kick out of it!

Peter3D commented on October 17, 2007

What Windows versions are supported ?

Mike69 commented on November 19, 2007

I love this screensaver, thanks! Would it be possible to allow for the selection of your own font and size? I would like to use a more blocky font so it looks more like the original Pong (as well as make the font bigger). Keep up the great work!

Mike commented on January 8, 2008

I installed it but it's not working. Could someone help me out? Thanks!

Awesome commented on January 9, 2008

Very...very nice...just stumbled across this and DL'd it...I like it a lot. :)

Awesome commented on January 9, 2008

Well just install it...save it to your desktop...double click the icon on your desktop and install it there. Then right click on your desktop and click properties...then screen saver and select the option in there. :)

Dalif commented on January 9, 2008

Will this work with a dual monitor setup I wonder?

Hevn commented on January 9, 2008

Doesnt work on a dual monitor setup.

Nunnja commented on January 9, 2008

This is pure genius! Complements my binary watch SO nicely :)

Adam Lyttle commented on January 9, 2008

Dalif: Dual monitor support is coming in the next version

Mike commented on January 9, 2008

Hi! I was wondering if there is a version of this screen saver for Linux/UNIX-Based platforms. It doesn't seem to be the kind of thing that would run on WINE, though I'm admittedly not sure.

Nate commented on January 9, 2008

Any chance of making the screensaver Mac compatible

Adam Lyttle commented on January 9, 2008

Mike & Nate: Unfortunately this is a Windows screensaver with no plans on porting to Linux or Mac. There are emulators I recommend (such as Parallels) but I don't know what sort of success you will have.

Bo somebody commented on January 9, 2008

You should make more for dual monitor set up cuz I think it would be cool to see each paddle get a monitor to do their thing in

Warbz commented on January 11, 2008

Thanks, this just popped up on "stumbleupon". I really like it. =)

David commented on January 12, 2008

Nope, it's not working properly. When I preview it in display settings, it's perfectly fine. When it actually happens, the display is all corrupted and squashed to the left hand side, and there's only one paddle, and I can only see one number. Any causes/reasons for this?

David commented on January 12, 2008

with reference to my above post, I have diagnosed the problem. It fails to work with "on resume display welcome screen" turned on. I'd suggest this bug be fixed for the next release? I like to lock my desktop if I'm gone for a few minutes.

Jerry commented on January 12, 2008

Nope, it's not working for me either. I'm getting the same problem in the preview as I am in the actual screensaver. It's being "squashed" just like it was for David, but I don't have 'on rusume display, password protect', on, so I don't know what the problem is :(. Someone please help.

Adri commented on January 12, 2008

Doesn't work correctly on widescreen lcds mate. Fix it if you can oh-so-please do, cuz it's really wicked!

Adam Lyttle commented on January 12, 2008

Thanks for the bug report guys. I hear you! Thanks for the extra diagnosis David, makes my job much easier! The next version will have support for dual monitors, fix the welcome screen issue and work on widescreen monitors.

Edd commented on January 13, 2008

Doesn't work on my non-widescreen laptop, only displays the minutes side. looking forward to an update ;)

Aaron Boswell commented on January 14, 2008

Please make a 12-hour version for us "yanks" in the States.

Adam Lyttle commented on January 14, 2008

Thanks for the suggestion, I will keep it in mind for the next release.

Ben commented on January 16, 2008

this is one of the worst thought out screensavers i have ever come across. the green lines of the pong playing area will get burnt into the screen. so much for saving it.

Adam Lyttle commented on January 16, 2008

Ben: In this day and age people use the power saving features to turn their monitor off. The screensaver would only be used for a few minutes, at the most. If you don't like the barriers simply turn them off in the options.

Jerry commented on January 29, 2008

I know why it is being "squashed" to one side (the left side) for me. I am using Litestep for my system shell. I tried a trouble shoot and uninstalled it. So for anyone using Litestep for a command shell, current version of screen saver will not work.

Joe commented on July 22, 2008

@Ben - Burn-in is not a problem for LCD monitors. If it bothers you, you can turn them off.

August commented on August 19, 2008

It seems that it doesn't work properly when as a screensaver on the XP logon screen. The right paddle is maybe 50 or 100 pixels from the left hand side (can't remember from memory). So Litestep is not the problem. Perhaps it only runs perhaps when logged in to XP using the normal shell? I want to select different font sizes!!! Had this as my screensaver for a good year now.

marykate commented on December 2, 2008

:( Doesn't work on Vista 64. I loved this screen saver... but I have to also ask... how do I uninstall it?? I can't find it in the uninstall options...

Mike commented on February 18, 2009

Any word on version 3 yet?

Dreiutz commented on August 7, 2009

Doesn't work on my Dell D830 Vista Business notebook. It does nothing when I press the Preview button, and also when I wait for the screensaver to load on its own.

Neal commented on August 17, 2009

Looks good. Wondering when v3.0 is on its way?
