Digg Alerter Feature Requests
Published by Adam Lyttle on December 10, 2007

A few months back Adamant Solutions released Digg Alerter, a free application that runs on Windows and tracks your Digg submissions.

It's actively used by some of the biggest submitters on Digg, even if it hasn't been updated recently. In fact I receive plenty of emails on a regular basis thanking me for developing the program and requesting the addition of new and improved features.

In the past I have had to turn away some of the feature requests (partly because of real world priorities, the lead up to Christmas and planning for our wedding in just over a month now).

Here's the good news!

In the coming months I plan on adding many of the features that have been spinning around my head. I would also like to take this opportunity to give the Digg community a voice in the development process.

Do you have a feature request?

Then post a comment or send me an email. All requests will be considered.

So what are you waiting for?

Something on my wishlist... A tab in the digg alerter which will tell you within your last submissions the diggers that have repeatedly dugg and liked your stories. There is a tool out there called Digg Entourage but it doesn't seem to update or work anymore. It would be great if this tool integrated this data on my desktop inside the Digg Alerter. Great job on the first design, I find it very useful and keeps me more in tune with my digg submissions. Another feature that would be wonderful is a different DING tone when a person that diggs your story is not a friend on Digg. Due to Diggs algorithm change it is becoming much more important when non-friends find interest in your story. Without looking, it would be amazing to discern the "type" of Digg coming in, whether friend or non-friend.

I've used Digg for so long and I didn't know about this tool. Thanks for the info mate.

I just wanted to say that I love using Digg Alerter. It's an awesome tool. However, I can think of a few improvements I personally wouldn't mind seeing. I think it would be good, to have some way to alphabetize the username's of the people that dugg a story. Because if I want to shout a story around, (which I seldom do) It would be nice to be able to know who already dugg a story, and not annoy them with a useless shout. The easiest way to do that, is to have the (option) of organizing the diggers on the side bar by alphabetical order, since the shout function in digg is also alphabetized. With that said... I do like the way it currently is, where I can tell the order in which somebody dugg a story. Also, concerning who dugg a story... It would also be nice if I knew if somebody was a mutual friend or not. Maybe they show up in a different color or as WebAddict suggested above, maybe a different ding-tone. Oh, and one more think that would be cool. Once a story goes popular, you can tell because it goes bold & turns red, and you hear a different ding-tone. What if you have something similar that alerts you when it hits the upcoming sidebar of the respected category the story is submitted too. NOW that would be pretty cool to have! Also... Since the new digg-algo takes into consideration the % of people who are your friends, compared to who aren't your friends... It would be pretty cool to see a live & constantly changing Friend%, just like you have now with Topic, Diggs, Comments, etc. Wow. That turned out to be a pretty long comment. Maybe I should've just emailed it to you. Anyways. Even if you don't change anything, or think my ideas are stupid... I just want to thank you for providing this tool. I use it everyday. I love it! I tell everyone about it... So, Thank You!
