Westpac's New Website -- Sneak Peak!

The new Westpac website, set to launch this year, features a slicker interface that's much easier to use and navigate (not to mention much nicer on the eye).

The company has announced the new website design months before the new site is set to go live. An online bulletin reads "Our website is changing!", with information about the new design and an online interactive guide aimed at introducing customers to the new site.

This is a well thought out plan by Westpac, who have had their name used on phoney websites aimed at stealing customers online login details (also known as phishing sites). The initiative prepares their customers of the changes well before the new site goes live, giving them a chance to become familiar with the new look.

Westpac offers the following tips to ensure their customers are viewing the new website and not a phishing site:

How do I know the changes are part of Westpac's new website?
You can be assured by simply typing www.westpac.com.au in your web browser and follow the links to online banking.

Security reminder
Remember never respond to an email with your personal details including your Customer ID or passwords. Westpac will never send you an email with a link to your online banking.

How to boost and monetise your website
Adam Lyttle

There is an interesting PDF report available at Smart Company packed with plenty of useful information about boosting traffic to your website through good website planning, online marketing strategies and search engine optimisation.

An article entitled "SEO and web design" on page 8 outlines the importance of selecting the right web designer and developer for the job and offers four simple tips:

1. Textual content -- Avoid image heavy designs with each page having a minimum of 350 words.

2. Technology, flash -- Search engines have a difficult time searching through flash files, so try to avoid selecting a web designer with too much emphasis on flash.

3. Technology, javascript -- Avoid using javascript for navigation purposes and always use a sitemap.

4. Site structure -- Dedicate some time and thought to the keywords used in your sitemap and make sure your web developer makes your website addresses user friendly.

It's worth noting that Adamant Solutions follows all of the above rules (and more) when working with our clients to design and develop websites that generates additional revenue and produces more interest in your products and services. Click here for more details.
